In July of 2013, Melissa needed to be up in Rochester for a two-day work conference. As we’d found on our December 2012 trip up there, it’s a long one day trip, and the company was only paying for the night OF the conference, so we decided to get about halfway there on one day, and then she could head up the next morning. Harrisburg is a good 1/2 day trip, so we headed there, Melissa following me in the car. We’d camp overnight in a campground right along the Susquehanna, and then she’d head straight north and I’d head back home. So this is pretty much a road-trip journal of the trip – across the Delaware via the Delaware Memorial, up I-295 and I-95 to northern Delaware, then north on US Route 202 and 100 to the PA turnpike in Lionville, then west towards Harrisburg. We scooted back and forth around Harrisburg to get to Duncannon, which is just a couple of miles north of town, and found our campsite as it started to get foggy.
It rained pretty well overnight, and the next day puddles dotted the campsite, but better weather was forecast. After breakfast, Mellisa took off northbound up the Susquehanna towards Corning and then Rochester, and I headed south on I-83 towards York and northern Maryland, where I’d hook up with I-695 and head home that familiar route to I-95 north, and back across the Delaware. I hit sprinkles and showers along most of the route through PA, but then it cleared as I traveled through Maryland and Delaware. I-83 was an interesting route, up and down over the low foothills of the Allegheny’s, spotted with rain drops here and there. York passed by, with several very short exit ramps, and then I was into Maryland. The interchange with I-695 was being worked on, as was the next connection of I-695 and I-95 northbound. Then it was just a short run up across Delaware and over the bridge again.
