We had tix to see Latino band Los Lonely Boys at a venue up in Jim Thorpe, PA called Penns Peak. We took the ride up there on Friday afternoon, took in the very well received concert, and then toured the little town of J. Thorpe the next day. Jim Thorpe used to be Mauch Chunk, but in the mid 50s when the noted athlete passed away, the city fathers saw that no one seemed to claim him. He was born on an Indian reservation, and attended the Indian School in semi-nearby Carlisle, PA. They offered to inter his body with the honor and respect it deserved, and changed the name of the town to match. There’s a big statue of him, but we didn’t visit the part of town it’s in.
