Day 1 – Quechee & White River Junction

When we got up, it was cloudy and cool but at least it had stopped raining. I took a look outside to get a feel for the foliage colors. It looked like Ireland.

After some consultation, we decided to tour a place a few miles away that promised some shops, an alpaca or two, and views of the locally-heralded Quechee Gorge, the self-proclaimed “Grand Canyon of Lower Mid-Central Vermont”. We cruised around the shops, bought some Cabot cheese, I sat on a bear’s lap, and then we had some lunch at the little cafe down the way.

After lunch, we walked across the road that traversed the Quechee Gorge, a 200 foot deep canyon of the Quecheeappiddickonkadonkadookiemookie River or something like that. It was sorta cool.

After the Gorge had exhausted our interest, Mom suggested we head on east to White River Junction, where niece Amanda ran the marketing efforts of the local semi-pro theatre organization.  The Northern Stage players have a very professional organization, and put on some very well received theatre. It was fun touring around the place and seeing the stage getting set for that night’s performance.

On the way home, Melissa wanted me to stop and get a picture of a memorable piece of Vermont landscape – the top of a ridge line off the interstate with three sentinel trees outlined against the sky.
