2014-05 Maryland Sheep & Wool Fest

May 2014 – Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival

In the spring of 2014, we planned a trip to the weekend-long Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival. This shin-dig is held every year on the first weekend of May, at the Howard County Fairgrounds, about midway between Baltimore and Frederick, out on Interstate 70.  It attracts lots of vendors of sheep and wool paraphenalias, spinning and weaving crafts, and all that sort of stuff.  We looked around for a campground to take the Bounder and make a weekend of it, with granddaughter Kamryn along for the ride.

There was only one decent campground near the place, a few miles up the road on the north of I-70. We made reservations, and on a sunny Friday afternoon, soon after Kamryn got off the bus from school, we were off. Right up to the Delaware Memorial Bridge, then south on I-95 and north-west on the I-695 loop around Baltimore till we connect with literally the eastern terminus of Interstate 70, where the far end was a dead spot in the Utah desert. Taking shots in to the setting sun was not the best environment for the trip west.
