Part Two, Lancaster and the Drive Home
We navigated around Harrisburg, and since there were no direct highways from Here to There, we zigged a bit, and zagged a bit, and then zigged again. A few moments found us on Interstate 81 North, heading for a junction with US 322 East and Interstate 83 South…but we fooled them, and took an exit for Interstate 83 North and then for US 322 East. Soon enough, we were on Interstate 283 South, but that was going in the wrong direction, so we hopped on PA Route 283 East, which was a fairly nice drive, to tell the truth. Pennsylvania farmland spread out far and wide. After 20 or so miles, we crashed directly into US Route 30 east, and followed it a couple of miles to our campground.
The campground was directly next to the famed Family Fun Fest of Dutch Wonderland, but it was late in the day and we didn’t really fancy a water slide at the moment. We found our spot in the campground, and it was nicely laid out, wooded with nice lanes and easy to work with. While the rest of the gang messed about with bicycles and stuff, I headed to the edge of the place and got some shots of the creek and next door’s Amish farmland.
I found it interesting that the farmer had a team of horses pulling a cart with a gasoline-fueled thresher or something. Mix of Old and New, I guess. The Canada geese and ducks were about, flying here and there and coming in for a crash landing on the creek. Thus ended our Saturday that had begun with fog and drizzle about 100 miles away.
