On a nice, clear, almost warm morning in March 2013, I took a run up to Camden to tour the Battleship New Jersey, moored along the waterfront. There’s a nice little waterfront park there as well, and I got some shots of the Philly skyline. On top of the parking garage, the famous, old, classic RCA building stood just to the north. That building has been there since the early 1900s, and was the hub of the music industry in 1905. Caruso recorded there.
The old tub has been moored here in Camden since late 2001. It is a sister ship to the last run of large, heavily armed battleships the US Navy commissioned, the “Iowa-Class”, designed and built in the late 1930s/early 1940s. All three of the ships saw service in World War 2, Korean, Viet Nam, and assorted sundry military expeditions throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. The Missouri, or course, served as the host for the Imperial Japanese surrender in 1945, and then went on to stardom as Steven Seagal’s personal watercraft in “Under Siege”. It is now floating around in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The Iowa, 3rd sister, is moored in Des Moines, Iowa, on Hudkins Creek..
Just wanted to see if you were following along.

After I left the ship, I walked along the waterfront, looking for some good vantage points to get late-afternoon shots of Philly’s skyline being lit up. It’s probably a better idea to get there at sun UP instead, since I’m looking at the eastern front of the city. But I got some decent shots anyway.
