Bottle Brush and Orchids

Now I realize that photographing flowers may be a bit LESS of a challenge since they are inherently gorgeous anyway, but believe it or not, the bottle brush flower on the tree is not all that easy to get sharp.

As I'd never heard of it before, I was fascinated with them during my trip to Florida and thought others might like to see them, too.

Here is my best effort on those... and an orchid photo I'm really proud of (because it's so translucent, mostly).

Enjoy! :)

WOW.....!
That orchid is outrageously beautiful. The texture is captured perfectly, the depth of field looking down the "throat' of the blossom is amazing. The color saturation of the center against a beautiful white bloom is flawless.
I kept coming back to this. It'd be on my wall any day of the week.

Your sentiments make me feel so good! Thank you!!
I am especially pleased with this one, for sure.

(AND: If a print is what ye wish... a print is what ye can have! I actually screwed up and made it big enough for a decent sized print for a change!! Happy accidents abound  :)
You can print it at :  http://www.tildephotography.smugmug.com  in various sizes and formats.
If Ian is successful teaching me the Sinar before I have to go back; I'll make another ... hopefully as good... that is capable of being printed 5 ft by 8ft!!!  THAT'S the one I'd want on my wall as a BIG focal point, personally. )

Thanks again!

nice, Theresa! i love the soft, fragile, translucent look of the orchid...

i think the reason it's so hard to get the bottle-brush blooms sharp is the color. they're so RED, it tends to all just sorta run together, and takes away some of the sharpness. not uncommon with vivid reds... they almost always come through oversaturated. try turning down the red channel saturation a tad, and see if that sharpens 'em up a bit!  ;)

First time I have seen a bottle brush that wasn't in the sink, yay! Like both the bottle brush and orcid photos. Thanks for sharing.

Well its back to the drawing board for me. I have been trying to get a decent shot of mine and the lights and whites are washed out. Maybe less exposure. You certainly did excellent with this one.

Thank you! They are not ALL like this though... and yes, the exposure is a couple of stops lower because the light was bright and inside the kitchen where it was taken was darker.
This was my "happy accident"! :)
