It is a brand name. Solid as a rock, and made of an aluminum magnesium titanium alloy, so you can set up in a stream with no adverse effects to the parts.

Wow. You and Rocky are on a roll. I hope to get out this weekend while the water level is so high. Awesome photo.

Really spectacular Rocky. Exposure is perfect, as usual.

One fantastic set of falls! Exposure is spot on. Well worth the effort. As for cell phones, first make sure there is service. 99% of the places I go are dead zones. Actually saw a sign on a tree once, read "cell service here".

no cell service is exactly why i need a satellite phone... doesn't matter where i go, i've got service. expensive, yes, but a potential life-saver in some of the places i go...  ;)

All the rain has had some positives, in this case a waterfall on the way to Steward lake near Caroga, NY. Usually by this time of year, it is a trickle at best, but this weekend it was flowing. I particularly like the rock formations.
Techy Stuff: Nikon D5000, 18-105 Nikkor lens @ 40 mm, f/13, 1.3 sec, SLIK tripod.

Hiked out to Kibby yesterday, located in the central Adirondacks.  With all the recent rain, the trail was basically a mud puddle. To add additional insult, a few minutes after we got there, a major clap of thunder, followed by a down pour. Did manage to get this 6 shot pano before all the doom and gloom set in. The storm did get us back to the trail head 15 minutes faster than it took to get in.

did a little bushwhacking of my own this past weekend, went up to find Lazy Bear Falls on Bacon Creek up in the North Cascades. the road was largely overgrown the last mile and a half or so, and the trail from the end of the road to the falls was all but invisible. happily, i had my machete in the Jeep, and was able to clear the trail a bit and get down to the falls. it was a pretty steep little adventure, especially the last 30-40 feet- down a loose bank, over tree roots and then a log jam, all just waiting to break someone's ankle. i recall thinking to myself, i really gotta get a sat phone... if i broke a leg out here, no one would ever find me!! oh well... maybe one of these days when i can afford the $600 or so for the phone and a $75 minimum monthly service charge...  anyway, here's the falls. not as pretty as i'd hoped, but still a nice little spot...  5D2, 24-105 @ 28mm, 1/2 sec @ f/9 with a polarizer...

Yes, I agree about light. It was such a beautiful day on Wednesday though. I just can't always get my head around the "ugh..its a gloomy dreary day out...lets go take pictures!".. :)    But yeah, I was there from 10am to about 1:30 - and it was so clear and sunny - very sharp contrasts, very defined shadows, etc.  Maybe I should have gone yesterday during the tropical downpour..

heck, just wait till sundown!  ;)
