Lightroom 3
« on: January 22, 2012, 08:50:31 AM »

Now that a new version of Lightroom is about to appear, version 3 is on sale for $150. Presently I am using Elements 8, and am 90% satisfied with its abilities. I was wondering if it is worth purchasing Lightroom? What are the advantages? I know a somewhat better ACR.

On a side note, why, other than cost, are most software companies only offering an on line down load. I prefer to keep my images on a computer that is not connected to the internet, and am missing out on some great packages i would like.  ???

I just downloaded Lightroom 4. Having never used any previous versions, was amazed how much different it is from PhotoShop. If I had the money I would be buying it.

LR 3 should be had for about 50-75 buckaroos. I have LR 4 (had LR3). I prefer LR 4 and I can't really explain why. Sorry. I think you would do well with an upgrade to PSE10. My major PP software is Corel Photo xiv, PSE 10, Nik Silver, and several other specialized programs.  PSE, Corel and LR 3 and 4 have all been discs purchased and sent to me by snail mail. If you PM me I could possibly share some older different software with you that I can.

Hope you don't mind for me to add here, but I have recently started using LR4 and have not stopped kicking myself for not getting it sooner! I have been using some free software in combination with CS5 with "OK" success, but I still can't get over how much control LR4 gives you. Now, lately, instead of taking new photos I have been going back and prepossessing my old ones and fixing some that I thought were unusable. The gist of this story, I am extremely pleased with LR4 and could not imagine not being able to use it!
